25 April 2025 – MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE. In its continued commitment to deliver timely and accurate economic indicators, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) has completed the April 2025 round of the Survey of Retail Prices of Selected Commodities—an essential undertaking for the generation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Conducted in two phases, the price collection spanned from April 1 to 5 and resumed for a second round on April 15 to 17, capturing price movements in various markets across the province. The first phase covered six pre-identified outlets across different municipalities, while the second phase carried out in Outlets 1 and 2 in Boac, Marinduque’s capital town.
The CPI, often regarded as a key indicator of inflation, is more than just a set of numbers. It reflects how far the peso stretches in purchasing everyday goods and services. From guiding wage adjustments and monitoring rental trends to shaping poverty thresholds and project valuations, CPI data serves as a backbone for meaningful policy-making and economic planning. Its results impact not just statisticians and economists, but ordinary households navigating the daily cost of living.
To ensure the integrity of this data, six Statistical Researchers (SRs) were deployed on the ground, conducting face-to-face interviews with store owners and service providers. These efforts spanned major commercial areas in Boac (Outlets 1 & 2), Gasan (Outlet 3), Buenavista and Torrijos (Outlet 4), Mogpog (Outlet 5), and Santa Cruz (Outlet 6). Each outlet plays a strategic role in representing consumer behavior and market trends in the province.
With the successful completion of this survey round, PSA PSO Marinduque reaffirms its dedication to producing reliable statistics that support evidence-based governance and responsive economic programs.
