The total population of the province of Oriental Mindoro as of 1 July 2024 is 919,504 based on the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN).

The total population of the province of Oriental Mindoro accounts for about 28.3 percent of the population of the MIMAROPA Region in 2024. It is the second largest province among the five provinces and one highly urbanized city in the region in terms of population size.

The 2024 population of Oriental Mindoro is higher by 11,165 compared with its population of 908,339 in 2020. This is 75,445 more than its population of 844,059 in 2015; and higher by 133,902 compared with its population of 785,602 in 2010. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

 

 

 

The population growth rate (PGR) slowed to 0.29 percent annually from 2020 to 2024. By comparison, the rate at which the province’s population grew during the period 2015 to 2020 was higher at 1.56 percent. (Table 2)

 

 

The province of Oriental Mindoro is composed of one city and 14 municipalities, and 426 barangays.

Of the 15 City/Municipalities, City of Calapan recorded the largest population in 2024 with 148,558, followed by the Municipality of Naujan with 109,122, and Pinamalayan with 90,420. The combined population of these three city/municipalities accounts for about 37.9 percent of the population of the province. The least populated municipality is San Teodoro with 19,650 or about 2.1 percent of the total population of the province. (Table 3 and Figure 2)

 

 

 

The municipality of Bulalacao is the fastest-growing municipality in the province, with an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 1.10 percent from 2020 to 2024. It is followed by Bansud with 0.95 percent. Two municipalities in the province have a negative annual PGR, namely Naujan with -0.10 percent, and Roxas with -0.17 percent. (Table 4)

 

 

The largest barangay in terms of population size is Barangay Panaytayan located in the municipality of Mansalay, with 11,735 persons. It is followed by Barangay B. del Mundo in Mansalay with 8,659 persons, Barangay San Roque in Bulalacao with 7,545 persons, Barangay Bagumbayan in Roxas with 7,052 persons, and Barangay Papandayan in Pinamalayan with 7,010 persons. The rest of the ten most populous barangays in Oriental Mindoro are shown in Table 5. The ten most populous barangays in the province comprised 8.0 percent of the total population of the province. The smallest barangays in terms of population are located in the municipality of Pola, which is Barangay Zone I with 257 persons, followed by Barangay Santa Cruz in Baco with 275 persons, Barangay San Vicente Central in City of Calapan with 285 persons, Barangay Zone II in Pola with 305 persons, and Barangay San Andres in Baco with 312 persons. The rest of the ten least populous barangays are shown in Table 6. The ten least populous barangays in the province comprised 0.4 percent of the total population of the province.
