Language/Dialects Spoken in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro
(2020 Census of Population and Housing)
Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 11,301 households in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro
Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 11,301 households or 92.3 percent of the 12,250 households in the municipality. Ilocano was the second most generally spoken language at home with 454 households or 3.7 percent, followed by Mangyan-Tadyawan with 368 households or 3.0 percent. (Figure 1)
Other languages/dialects such as Mangyan-Alangan, Mangyan-Bangon, Bisaya/Binisaya, American/English, Bikol/Bicol, Batangan, and T’Duray/Teduray were generally spoken in 100 households or 0.8 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)
Predominantly Tagalog-Speaking Barangays: Barangay Duongan, Mabini, Merit, and San Gabriel…
Of the 32 barangays in the municipality of Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, Barangay Duongan, Barangay Mabini, Barangay Merit, and Barangay San Gabriel were the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (100.0 percent). Barangay San Isidro, Barangay Pakyas, and Barangay Malabo followed with 99.6 percent, each. Meanwhile, Barangay Villa Cerveza had only 47.1 percent of its households with Tagalog as the top language spoken at home. (Table 2)
As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Mangyan-Tadyawan was reported to be highest in the barangay of Villa Cerveza, with 45.0 percent. This was followed by Ilocano being highest in the barangays of Bethel and Macatoc with 27.3 percent and 22.3 percent, respectively. (Table 2)
The third language/dialect spoken at home was Mangyan-Bangon. This was reported to be the highest in Barangay Villa Cerveza with 6.1 percent. (Table 2)
American English is the primary foreign language spoken at home by Victoria, Oriental Mindoro residents who converse in a foreign language
In 2020, there were eight households in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro who generally speak in a foreign language at home. This constituted to 0.1 percent of the municipality’s total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the time of the census. American English ranked first with six households as the language they generally spoke at home and had 75.0 percent share among those households in the province who can converse using a foreign language at home. This was followed by Chinese with two households or 25.0 percent. (Table 3)

Household is a social unit consisting of a person or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.
Language/dialect generally spoken at home refers to the language or dialect generally used or spoken by the members of the household most of the time at home. It provides a measure of the linguistic homogeneity or difference in the population. Specifically, it measures the extent of the actual use of a language/dialect within a household. The Philippines' official languages are Filipino and English.
