Tagalog is the language generally spoken in 20,879 households in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
Based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), Tagalog is spoken in 20,879 households or 97.9 percent of the 21,321 households in the municipality. Mangyan-Tau-Buid was the second most generally spoken language at home with 192 households or 0.9 percent, followed by Bantoanon/Asi with 59 households or 0.3 percent. (Figure 1)
Other languages/dialects such as Mangyan-Tadyawan, Cebuano, Bisaya/Binisaya, T’Duray/Teduray, Romblomanon/Ini, American/English, and Ilocano were generally spoken in 158 households or 0.7 percent of the total households in the municipality. (Table 1)

Of the 37 barangays in the municipality of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, barangay Bacungan, barangay Buli, barangay Malaya, barangay Nabuslot, barangay Quinabigan, and barangay Sta. Isabel were the most homogeneous in terms of language/dialect spoken by their households, with all households generally speaking Tagalog at home (100.0 percent). Barangay Marfrancisco followed with 99.9 percent. Meanwhile, barangay Sabang had only 69.2 percent of its households with Tagalog as the top language spoken at home. (Table 2)
As for the second language/dialect spoken at home, Mangyan-Tau-Buid was reported to be highest in the barangay of Sabang with 27.6 percent. (Table 2)
The third language/dialect spoken at home was Mangyan-Tadyawan. This was reported to be the highest in barangay Sabang with 2.9 percent. (Table 2)
American English is the primary foreign language spoken at home by Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro residents who converse in a foreign language
In 2020, there were 14 households in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro who generally speak in a foreign language at home. This constituted less than 0.1 percent of the municipality’s total number of households not enumerated as homeless during the time of the census. American English ranked first with 11 households as the language they generally spoke at home and had 78.6 percent share among those households in the province who can converse using a foreign language at home. This was followed by Spanish, Chinese and Italian with one household each or 7.1 percent. (Table 3)
