Calatrava’s population recorded at 11,254

The population of the municipality of Calatrava as of July 1, 2024 was 11,254 persons. This population count is based on the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN).

This count has been declared official for all purposes by the President of the Philippines through Proclamation No. 973 dated 11 July 2025, pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, and Executive Order No. 87, s. 2025. These mandate the conduct of periodic censuses to provide government planners, policymakers, and administrators with essential data for crafting social and economic development plans and programs.

This municipal population figure reflects the total number of persons living in the 12 barangays of the municipality as of 12:01 AM on 01 July 2024. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.

The population in 2024 is lower by 88 compared with the population in 2020, and higher by 979 compared with the population in 2015. Table 1 shows the comparative results of the population in the past 4 censuses.

The municipality’s population declined by -0.19 percent

The population growth of Calarava declined by -0.19 percent annually from 2020 to 2024. The rate at which the population grew from 2015 to 2020 is at 2.10 percent. The decline in the growth rate maybe driven by interrelated factors such as but not limited to declining fertility and birth rate, mortality during the pandemic and migration activity after the pandemic.

Nineteen in every one hundred Calatrava residents are in San Roque

The municipality of Calatrava comprises 7 barangays. In 2024, Barangay San Roque recorded the highest population at 2,110, accounting for 18.7 percent of the municipal total. It was followed by the barangays of Balogo with 1,994 residents (17.7%) and Poblacion with 1,863 residents (16.7%). Collectively, these three barangays comprised approximately more than half (53.0%) of Calatrava’s total population (Figure 1 and Table 3). Ranking fourth and fifth in terms of population were the barangays of Pangulo (1,822) and Linao (1,454), respectively.

Barangay Pagsangahan was the smallest barangay, in terms of population size, with only 701 persons. It was followed by Barangay Talisay with 1,310 persons. Their population represents 6.2 and 11.6 percent, respectively.

Out of the 7 barangays, there were 3 which had a positive annual population growth rate (APGR). Barangay San Roque had the highest growth rate with 2.20 percent. It was followed by Pblacion (1.32%) and Pangulo (0.97%). The rest exhibited decline population growth rate.
