Volume of Fisheries Production
During the year 2024, the total fisheries production in Palawan was estimated at 409.68 thousand metric tons, higher by 5.7 percent from its previous year’s output of 387.70 thousand metric tons. The aquaculture subsector remains the biggest contributor in the province and exhibited a notable uptrend compared with the previous year’s levels. The commercial subsector also displayed increase in production while marine municipal fisheries and inland municipal fisheries recorded declines in volume of production.
Volume of Production by Subsector
In 2024, the commercial fisheries output posted an increase of 35.2 percent at 16.38 thousand metric tons compared to previous year’s volume of production of 12.12 thousand metric tons. This subsector shared 4.0 percent in the total fisheries production of the province.
Marine municipal fisheries’ volume of production was recorded at 106.86 thousand metric tons during the year. This represents a decline of 6.1 percent from 113.86 thousand metric tons production in 2023. Despite the decline, this subsector accounted for 26.1 percent in the total fisheries production of Palawan.
The subsector of inland municipal fisheries registered 48.99 metric tons volume of production, contributing 0.01 percent share to the total fisheries of the province. This year’s production declined by 59.0 percent from last year’s output of 119.41 metric tons.
Total harvests from aquaculture farms were recorded at 286.39 thousand metric tons. This volume displayed a 9.5 percent increase compared to the last year’s harvests of 261.60 metric tons. Aquaculture subsector had biggest share of 69.9 percent to the total fisheries production of the province.
Value of Fisheries Production
Palawan’s total value of fisheries production slightly declined in 2024 by 0.7 percent from a value of PhP 17.35 billion in the previous year to PhP 17.22 billion.
The value of commercial fisheries subsector posted an increase during the reference period with a total of PhP 1.29 billion registering a 33.6 percent increase from last year’s value of 965.19 million. Meanwhile, the aquaculture also posted an increase of 13.9 percent with 2.63 million from 2.31 million. On the other hand, the inland municipal fisheries value of production went down by 71.7 percent (PhP 4.97 million from PhP 17.55 million). Marine municipal’s value of production also declined by 5.4 percent (PhP 13.30 billion from PhP 14.05 billion).
