14 June 2024 – MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE. The PSA-Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) convened a press conference on 14 June 2024 at the Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office in Boac, Marinduque, presenting the comprehensive data on the current inflation report affecting the province for the month of May 2024.

During the press conference, Chief Statistical Specialist, Ms. Gemma N. Opis, reported an increase in inflation rate at 1.9 percent for the month of May. Moreover, the province's average inflation rate from January to May stood at 1.6 percent. Notably, there was a decrease in the Purchasing Power of Peso, dropping to Php 0.76 over this timeframe.

The report identified escalating costs in categories such as food and non-alcoholic beverages, transportation, and housing utilities as key drivers of this inflationary trend. Emphasizing the necessity of comprehending these factors, the report underscored the importance of devising effective economic strategies that could help mitigate the adverse effects on the local population.

The press conference was livestreamed on the official Facebook pages of PSA Marinduque PSO and Marinduque News Network.

The press conference concluded with an open forum, where attendees, including representatives from local government agencies, members of the press and the public, were engaged in a lively Q&A session and provide feedbacks. This initiative by the PSA-Marinduque PSO underscores its commitment to transparency and community engagement, fostering a more informed and proactive populace.
