24 March 2025 – MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE.  The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) PSO Marinduque carried out the March 2025 Survey of Retail Prices of Selected Commodities for the Generation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) in two phases: March 1-5, 2025, for the first phase and March 15-17, 2025, for the second phase. Price collection during the first phase covered Outlets 1-6, while the second phase focused on Outlets 1 & 2, in the provincial capital.

The CPI measures changes in the average retail prices of a fixed basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households, relative to a base year. It serves several key functions, including tracking inflation trends, assessing the purchasing power of the peso, guiding wage adjustment and non-wage benefits, evaluating interest rates and housing rents, estimating real consumption and income levels, determining per capita food thresholds for poverty estimation, and adjusting equivalent current value for projects.

To ensure accurate data collection, six Statistical Researchers (SRs) were deployed to conduct face-to-face interviews with the owners or staff of selected stores and service providers across six outlets in the province: Outlets 1 and 2 in Boac; Outlet 3 in Gasan; Outlet 4 in Buenavista and Torrijos; Outlet 5 in Mogpog; and Outlet 6 in Santa Cruz.

The survey plays a crucial role in providing reliable economic data that supports policy-making and economic planning at both local and national levels.
