01 October 2024 – BOAC, MARINDUQUE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) officially commenced the month-long celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) with a vibrant exhibit and motorcade on 01 October 2024 at the Casa Real, Boac, Marinduque. With this year's theme, "Advancing Data and Statistics through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation," the event highlights the crucial role of data and statistics in shaping a digitally- empowered society.

The event kicked off with a motorcade that saw active participation from various partner agencies, including local government units (LGUs), national government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, and stakeholders from the private sector. The procession traversed key areas in the municipalities of Boac and Mogpog, with vehicles adorned with banners and balloons. Accompanying the motorcade was the playing of the official NSM jingle, which resonated throughout the route, underscoring the vital role of statistics in fostering nation-building and promoting local development initiatives.

Following the motorcade, the celebration continued with the formal opening ceremony of the statistical exhibit in front of the historic Casa Real Building. The exhibit showcases a comprehensive collection of statistical data and infographics covering key development indicators for the province. The primary objective of the exhibit is to enhance public understanding of the critical role that data-driven governance and decision-making play, particularly in an era marked by rapid digital transformation.

Supervising Statistical Specialist Mr. Orlando L. Mercene opened the event with a warm welcome address, expressing his deep appreciation to all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement in the celebration. He highlighted the significance of their collective efforts in making the 35th National Statistics Month a meaningful and impactful occasion.

This was followed by messages from distinguished guest speakers. Governor Presbitero Velasco, represented by Former Vice Mayor          Sonny Paglinawan, conveyed his support to the event and emphasized the importance of utilizing statistics to drive informed decision-making and development initiatives within the province. EnP. Marian Cunanan from the Provincial Planning and Development Office and Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) Chairperson, shared insights on how data and statistics play a pivotal role in shaping local planning and development strategies. She encouraged collaboration across all sectors to harness the power of accurate data for effective governance. Additionally,Engr. Ma. Frances Pecaña from DICT MIMAROPA emphasized the importance of digital transformation in modernizing statistical processes to ensure data accessibility, accuracy, and timeliness for sustainable growth.

The event was graced by a lively dance intermission from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Marinduque, adding a festive and spirited atmosphere to the celebration. The festivity proceeded with a Statistical Quiz participated by the members of the PSC. The quiz aimed to test and enhance the participants' knowledge of statistical concepts, key development indicators, and local data. The competition fostered camaraderie among participants while promoting the importance of statistical literacy in effective governance and decision-making.

The celebration concluded with an awarding ceremony, recognizing the efforts of participants and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the opening event. Senior Statistical Specialist Imelda M. Miciano delivered the closing remarks, expressing her heartfelt gratitude to all the agencies, organizations, and individuals involved. She emphasized the importance of continuing to promote statistical awareness and collaboration in addressing local and national development challenges.

The successful launch of the 35th National Statistics Month set a positive tone for the month-long celebration, encouraging ongoing engagement and collaboration among stakeholders.
