TECHNICAL NOTES

Data on crops presented in this special release were sourced from the Palay and Corn Production Survey (PCPS) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) in the province. The survey collected information from palay and corn farmers, farming households, and non-farming households. Quarterly production data from all sectors were reviewed and validated, the production estimates were then made available to data users.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Palay and Corn Production Survey is one of the quarterly agricultural surveys that provides estimates on palay and corn production, area, yield, and other production-related metrics. This data supports policymaking and program development for palay/rice and corn.

Production refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. This includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvesters’ and threshers’ shares, reserved, etc.

Area Harvested refers to the total area from which palay or corn was harvested during the reference period. This area may be less than or equal to the total area planted.

Irrigated area are areas equipped with irrigation facilities that supply water through artificial means like gravity, force/power, pump, etc.

Rainfed area are areas with dikes that retain water and rely solely on rainfall for their water supply.

Yellow corn a type of corn primarily used as feed grains encompassing all varieties of corn other han white.

White Corn a type of corn used primarily for human consumption, regardless of color.
