Registered Marriages in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro 2023

Number of registered marriages went up by 22.8 percent

The Philippines was able to record 414,213 marriages in 2023 with a 7.8 percent decrease compared to 2022 with 449,828. The crude marriage rate1 decreased to 3.7 marriages per thousand population from 4.0 marriages per thousand population in 2022. On average, a total of 1,135 marriages were solemnized daily.

In MIMAROPA Region, a total of 13,313 marriages were registered marking a 7.1 percent decrease from the total registered marriages of 14,323 in 2022. The crude marriage rate in the region decreased to 3.7 marriages per thousand population from 4.4 marriages per thousand population in 2022. The average daily marriages solemnized in MIMAROPA is 36.5 marriages.

The province of Oriental Mindoro registered 3,888 marriages in 2023, 9.4 percent decrease compared to registered marriages in 2022 with 4,289. The crude marriage rate in the province decreased to 4.2 marriages per thousand population from 4.7 marriages per thousand population in 2022. The average daily marriages solemnized in Oriental Mindoro is 10.7 or 11 marriages.

On the other hand, the municipality of Naujan recorded 571 marriages in 2023, a 22.8 percent increase compared to the previous year with 465 marriages, translated to an average daily marriage of 1.6 or two marriages. (Figure 1)

 

 

Most marriages recorded in June

Most of the marriages in 2023 occurred in June with 117 registered marriages, this comprises 20.5 percent of the total marriages in the said year. The month of June had a daily average of 3.9 or four marriages. This was followed by the month of February with 69 marriages which comprises 12.1 percent of the total marriages in 2023. Then by April with 55 marriages with 9.6 percent share on registered marriages in 2023. On the other hand, November recorded the least number of marriages with only 15 registered marriages or 2.6 percent share of the total marriages in 2023. (Figure 2)

 

 

Majority of couples married between ages 25 to 29 years

Of the total number of registered in municipality of Naujan, around one in three men, 198 registered marriages or 34.7 percent share, married at aged 25 to 29. Same proportion was seen for women, 195 registered marriages or 34.2 percent share.

The number of men with registered marriages who are over 50 years of age (20 or 3.5 percent share) was twice than the number of women of the same group (10 or 1.8 percent share).

Moreover, a total of 182 marriages or 31.9 percent share involved marriages on adolescent females below 20 years old while the number of marriages involving adolescent males recorded 105 marriages or 18.4 percent share. (Figure 3)

 

 

One in every two couples wedded in Roman Catholic

Marriages that were contracted through Roman Catholic church recorded the highest number of marriages with 299 or 52.4 percent share in the year 2023. Moreover, 226 marriages or 39.6 percent share were officiated in civil ceremony while 46 marriages or 8.1 percent share were solemnized by other religious rites. (Figure 4)

 

 

Almost all marriages were timely registered

Of the total marriages in the municipality, only one was delayed registered, recording a 99.8 percent of timely registered marriages. (Figure 5)

TECHNICAL NOTES ON VITAL STATISTICS

 

Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.

Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.

Marriage is a contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Place of Occurrence refers to the place where the vital event took place.

Period when to report the event

Marriages that require the issuance of marriages license shall be reported to C/MCR for registration not later than fifteen (15) days from date of marriage. However, marriages that do not require a license such as marriage at the point of death (Article 27); marriages in remote places (Article 28); marriages between members of ethnic cultural community (Article 33); and marriages between men and women who have lived together for at least five (5) years (Article 34), shall be reported not later than thirty (30) day after date of marriage.

Any report made to the LCROs beyond the reglementary period are considered late and can be entered only in the civil register after the informant complies with the requirements for delayed registration.
