Women and Men in Vital Statistics 2023 Registered Deaths in MIMAROPA Region

More than two in every five registered deaths were females

In 2023, a total of 18,726 deaths were registered in the MIMAROPA Region. Female deaths accounted to 42.3 percent of this total while male deaths had 57.7 percent. This translates sex ratio of 136 male deaths for every 100 female deaths. (Figure 1)
 

 

Among provinces in the region, Oriental Mindoro posted the highest number of deaths with 5,676 cases or 30.0 percent of the region’s total number of registered deaths in 2023. Female deaths accounted to 43.4 percent of the provincial total deaths while male deaths had the remaining 56.6 percent share. (Figure 1 and Table A)

Meanwhile, Marinduque registered the lowest number of deaths at 1,644 cases or 8.8 percent share to the regional number of total deaths in 2023. Female deaths comprised 43.2 percent of the provincial total while male deaths got 56.8 percent share. (Figure 1 and Table A)


One in ten deaths among females occurred in January

In 2023, most registered deaths occurred in January with 1,777 deaths accounting for 9.5 percent of the total regionwide. Death among females registered at 771 cases in January while registered male deaths at 1,006 cases. It was followed by the months of December with 695 female deaths and 994 male deaths, and June with 686 female deaths and 928 male deaths. On the other hand, the month of February had the least number of deaths at 1,396 cases contributing 7.5 percent share to the regional total. (Figure 2 and Table B)
 


Of the total number of deaths in the region, aged 85 and over registered the highest representative on the number of deaths at 2,056 cases. Female shared a higher percentage with 67.9 percent while male shared 32.1 percent to the total number of deaths in this age group. The sex ratio on deaths among 85 years old and over was 47 males for every 100 females. (Figure 3 and Table C)
 

 

This age group 70 to 74 years old followed with 2,051 total deaths in which 47.9 percent were females and male with 52.1 percent. Meanwhile, the age group 10 to 14 years old registered the lowest number of registered deaths at 173 cases with 84 females and 89 males. (Figure 3 and Table C)


More than five in every nine deaths were unattended

Of the total number of registered deaths in the region, unattended deaths posted the highest share with 57.7 percent or a total of 10,800 deaths. In this category female recorded 4,666 deaths (43.2%) and male recorded 6,134 (56.8%). This translates to a sex ratio of 131 male unattended deaths for every 100 female unattended deaths. (Figure 4 and Table D)

Deaths attended by health professionals such as private physician, public health officer and hospital authorities tallied at 7,857 or 42.0 percent of the total registered deaths in the region. Female deaths accounted to 41.1 percent of those deaths that are attended by health professionals while male deaths had 59.0 percent share. (Figure 4 and Table D)
 


Nearly one in every nine persons who died at home was female

Among total deaths by site of occurrence, a total of 11,254 recorded death happened at home. This constitutes 60.1 percent of the region’s total number of registered deaths in 2023.  Of this total 43.5 percent were females and the remaining 56.5 percent were males. (Figure 5 and Table E)
 

 

Meanwhile, deaths occurred in health facilities posted a total of 7,232 or 30.6 percent share to the total number of registered deaths in the region. Female persons who died in health facilities accounted to 40.6 percent of the regional total, while majority or 59.4 percent were males. (Figure 5 and Table E)


One in every three married persons who died were female

Married status accounted the highest number of deaths with 8,912 or 47.6 percent of the total number of registered deaths in the region. About 32.2 percent of married MIMAROPAns who died in 2023 were female. (Figure 6 and Table F) 
 

 

Deceased MIMAROPAns who were single were tallied at 4,897 with females having 35.1 percent share. Meanwhile, deceased widowed persons in the region were tallied at 4,826 with females accounting to a share of 68.5 percent. (Figure 6 and Table F)
