The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) successfully conducted the 1st Quarter 2024 Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS), from 25 March 2024 to 3 April 2024. The PSA's authority and mandate to conduct this survey emanates from Republic Act (RA) 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct surveys and periodic censuses on various sectors of the economy.
BLPS is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by PSA. The data gathered in this survey are as follows: type of operation, inventory, born live/hatched live, acquired, sold live for slaughter and for other purposes, slaughtered/dressed in the household, number of deaths, average liveweight, average farmgate price, egg production indicator for poultry, and milk production for carabao, cattle and goat. This survey aims to generate estimates on the inventory, number of animals disposed, average farmgate price, egg production of poultry animals, milk production of dairy animals and other related data. More importantly, the production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the valuation of production in Philippine agriculture and fisheries, and accordingly to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
PSA-Marinduque hired four Statistical Researcher (SRs) to conduct personal interviews in 240 sample households located across the province located Duyay, Puyog, Tabigue, and Tugos in Boac, Bagtingon and Libas in Buenavista. Balanacan, Laon, and Nangka II in Mogpog, Kaganhao, Landy, and Matalaba in Santa Cruz.
The sampling frame used for this survey was the result of 2017 Listing of Farm Households (LFH). Accordingly, four Statistical Researchers (SRs) were hired to conduct personal interviews with the said samples.
In this regard, the sample households are encouraged to participate in this nationwide undertaking by providing the necessary and accurate information.
PSA assures that SRs will continue to strictly adhere to proper health protocols when dealing with respondents.
Pursuant to Section 19 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10173, known as the “Data Privacy Act of 2012,” all information that will be gathered will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Further, Section 26 of RA No. 10625 also stipulates that “individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses conducted by the PSA shall be considered privileged communication and as such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding.”
