27 September 2024 – MARINDUQUE PROVINCIAL STATISTICAL OFFICE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) successfully conducted the Third Quarter 2024 Commercial Fisheries Survey (QCFS), from July 1, 2024 to September 27, 2024.
The QCFS is a fisheries subsector focused on fishing operations in marine waters more than 15 kilometers from shore, using boats over three gross tons. This survey collects data on the volume and price of species unloaded at commercial landing centers, as well as information on gear used, fishing effort, and fishing grounds. Its goal is to generate data on the volume and value of commercial fisheries production by species at provincial, regional, and national levels.
In Marinduque, there are three commercial landing centers, all classified as traditional, located in Buenavista and Torrijos. A traditional landing center is a space where fisherfolks can unload and sell their catch or dock their boats without any fees. Two Statistical Researchers (SRs) were hired to conduct personal interviews in these locations.
PSA ensures that Statistical Researchers (SRs) will strictly follow health protocols while interacting with respondents. Qualified fisherfolks are encouraged to participate in this nationwide effort by providing accurate and necessary information.
Under Section 19 of Republic Act No. 10173, the “Data Privacy Act of 2012,” all collected information will be kept confidential. Additionally, Section 26 of RA No. 10625 states that individual data provided to the PSA for statistical inquiries is considered privileged communication and cannot be used as evidence in any legal proceeding.
