18 September 2024 – Abra De Ilog, Occidental Mindoro – Despite the fierce winds and heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon Helen, the dedicated team at the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) remained resolute in their mission to register the community for the National ID. The Rehistro Bulilit event, held in Tambarikay SNP, Barangay Balao, Abra De Ilog, Occidental Mindoro successfully registered a total of 23 individuals, with 17 of them being children under the age of five.
As the storm battered the province, the PhilSys team demonstrated remarkable commitment and adaptability. With raincoats and umbrellas in hand, they reached Tambarikay SNP and set up their registration booths, ensuring that safety protocols were in place while still providing vital services to the community. The team’s efforts highlight the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in government programs, especially in times of crisis.
“Even in the face of challenging weather conditions, our commitment to serve the community remains unwavering,” said Christian A. Altarejos, PhilSys Focal Person. “The National ID is not just a document; it represents security and access to essential services. We believe every individual, regardless of age, deserves to be registered.”
The Rehistro Bulilit program aims to register young children, ensuring they have the identification necessary for future access to health, education, and social services. The enthusiastic turnout, despite the adverse conditions, underscores the community's recognition of the importance of the National ID.
Parents and guardians expressed their gratitude for the team's efforts, noting the significance of obtaining a National ID for their children. “Mahalaga po na bata palang mayroon na po silang National ID para hindi na po nila problemahin paglaki nila,” shared one parent. “Isa na rin po kasi sa requirements para sa delayed registration ang National ID, kaya sinamantala na po namin ang pagkakataon, another parent added.”
The PhilSys team plans to continue their registration efforts in other areas, determined to reach every household and ensure that no one is left behind. They are coordinating with local officials to set up additional registration sites, prioritizing areas that are less accessible.
As the province continues to soar high, the PhilSys stands as a beacon of hope, promising to strengthen the community and provide a sense of security for families in the National ID. The resilience displayed by the team in Tambarikay SNP serves as a testament to the importance of community service, especially in challenging times.
