The headline inflation in the City of Puerto Princesa in September 2024 is maintained at its previous month’s rate of 4.3 percent. In September 2023, inflation rate is higher at 4.4 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)


The overall inflation rate in Puerto Princesa City maintained at 4.3 percent. The result was primarily influenced by the lower index for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 7.4 percent from 9.8 percent in August 2024, health, at 2.4 percent from 3.5 percent, and transport, at -6.3 percent from -5.1 percent in the previous month.

Also contributing to the trend was recreation at 1.0 percent from 1.3 percent, education services, at 0.0 percent from 0.4 percent, and restaurants and accommodation services, at 3.5 percent from 3.7 percent.

In addition, higher inflation rates were observed in the following indices:

     a. Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages, 7.0 percent from 5.1 percent; 
     b. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 3.2 percent from 2.0 percent; 
     c. Clothing and Footwear, 0.3 percent from 0.0 percent;  
     d. Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routing Household Maintenance at 0.9 percent from 0.5 percent; and 
     e. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, at 2.0 percent from 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the other two commodity groups retained their previous month’s inflation 
rates.

Food index in Puerto Princesa City for September 2024 increased to 7.4 percent inflation rate, from 5.5 percent in the previous month. In September 2023, the food index was lower, at 3.3 percent inflation rate. (Table C)

The uptrend of the food inflation for the month was brought about by the faster inflation rate of fish and other seafoods with 13.3 percent in September 2024 from 0.6 percent in the previous month. This was followed by milk, other dairy products and eggs at 2.2 percent from 1.6 percent and meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 4.7 percent from 4.0 percent.

In addition, higher inflation rates were also observed in the following indices:

     a. Sugar, Confectionery, and Desserts, -4.4 percent from -5.3 percent; 
     b. Ready-made Food and Other Food Products n.e.c., at 5.0 percent from 4.8 percent last month; 
     c. Oils and Fats, -2.4 percent from -2.7 percent, and 
     d. Flour, Bread and other Bakery Products, Pasta Products and other Cereals, at -0.4 percent from -0.9 percent.

On the contrary, slower inflation rates were observed in the following food groups: 

     a. Fruits and Nuts, -0.1 percent from 1.4 percent;  
     b. Vegetables, Tubers, Plantains, Cooking Bananas and Pulses, -8.7 percent from -6.9 percent;  
     c. Rice, 20.6 percent from 21.5 percent; and 
     d. Corn, 2.4 percent from 10.8 percent.
